Nokia to offer energy saving features for phones

The worlds largest maker of cell phones has unveiled a new host of features aimed at energy savings. Nokia has long focused on reducing the amount of emissions its products create indirectly via their efficiency and also the amount of power its operations as a company have.

POWER ALTERNATIVES. A new model to obtain electricity of the waves

The coast of Galicia can be the location adapted for a new model of plant of production of maremotriz electricity invented by the Australian engineer Tom Denniss. The device, presented in Ferrol in the course of an environmental congress promoted by a tie foundation to the Diputación A Coruña, is already working in Port Kembla, the Australian coast and its implantation in Africa, Hawaii, Oregon and Baja California studies (Mexico).

A Galician company devises a system that reduces a 60% the cost in public lighting system

The Galician company Esinor, with seat in A Coruña, has devised a management system that allows to reduce in a 60% the power consumption of the lighting system networks. The method, call Computer Craft, consist of the implantation of a monitoring system in an only point, that uses technology GSM and Internet.

The Inega participates in the share capital of the first company of forest biomass

The company will settle in the locality of Santa Comba and will initiate its production in July of the 2008.
In Galicia, according to the promoters, the potential of advantage of the forest rest of the cuttings surpasses the million annual tons, matter that would allow to generate energy sufficient to supply the heating of more than 100,000 homes.

European ethanol production up 71% in 2006

In 2006, ethanol production in the EU increased by 71% compared to the previous year, to a total of 1.56 billion liters. The bulk of the biofuel originated in Germany (431 million liters, or 27% of European output) with Spain as a close second (402 million liters - 26% of the market).

The European Union creates a new solar map

The European Commission has published a new solar map with a detailed description of the solar PV potential in the different European geographical areas. The chart, which can be viewed online, allows a greater accuracy in the calculation of solar PV system yields, covering almost all points of Europe.

Abengoa opens the first EU commercial concentrating Solar Power Tower

Europe's first commercial concentrating solar power plant was inaugurated last week in southern Spain. The plant, known as PS10, features no less than 11 MW of power made up of 624 large heliostats. This project is only the first of a series of plants that will total 300 MW in the next 6 years that could fully power the city of Seville.
