This energy is based on the use of the heat existing in inner layers of the earth. It can be divided into two types: low temperatures and high temperatures:

  • The low temperature type has a domestic use: the energy collected is used in heating and heated water for sanitation. They use the temperature gradient of the earth surface that is between 10-60ºC each km deep.

  • The high temperature type use the rests of recent volcanic activity existing in the subsoil in order to produce steam for industrial use or to produce electricity.
